On the first snowy day of winter, my kids are asking to go outside almost before I’ve even woken up! Snow is fun and magical. Kids love to play in the snow, sled, throw snowballs, and of course, build snowmen. Snow days are the best! As moms, we can tap into the magic of snow by building a Snowman theme unit and studying the magic of snow for a week or two with our kids.
Whether you happen to live where snow is common, or you spend winters in Florida like we often do, the first thing you should do is get some Insta-Snow for your snowman theme unit. Insta-Snow is fun, fake snow and a science lesson or two all rolled into one. If you live near snow or can get to a place where you can build a snowman, you should also get this snowman making kit, so no one has to try to get a carrot to actually stick to the snowman’s face.
How to build a Snowman Theme Unit
Once you have these necessities on the way, let’s talk about how to build your theme unit. What I’ve put together for you is a list of snowman-related learning activities and fun you can enjoy each day. I’ve provided two weeks for your snowman theme. If that’s too long, you can always pick and choose the days you want to complete based on the books and supplies you have on hand or can get easily. Even just choosing a handful of these books, games, and activities on a snowy day will show your kids that learning can be fun and interesting!
